Meanwhile for Buzz it’s back to limited runs into space to test fuel, back home, then to space. They also have children and undergo other big life moments. We see Alisha married to her partner (a big moment in a Pixar/Disney movie that is portrayed simply as it should be). This makes possible a montage reminiscent of the make you cry ugly one in “Up.” Not as good, but what is?
The problem is, thanks to the way space travel works, while the flights last only minutes for Buzz, years have passed on Earth. Overcome with guilt at stranding everyone, Buzz undertakes flight tests to try to come up with a fuel stable enough to deliver the speeds necessary to leave.

It’s not particularly hospitable, but Buzz’s misguided heroics during their escape attempt leave them stranded. The movie just starts right in with Buzz, along with his commander and best friend Alisha Hawthorne (Uzo Aduba) and crew, making an unscheduled stop on a mysterious planet. Maybe he was too young to watch “Clueless?” A notice at the beginning of the film reminds us that in 1995 Andy got a Buzz Lightyear action figure, based on the character from his favorite movie.
